The following is a list of 34, 20-level classes from the D&D 3.5 canon listed by the book they are found in. Soulborn- blends incarnum and martial combat. Totemist- calls on the souls. What are these 'tiers' you're talking about?As I understand it, it originated here: The author talks about wizards (for example) 'destroying cities with a first level spell' and 'killing untracably without range limitation of save', but subsequent text makes it clear that they deserve their tier 1 status if you ban such obvious nonsense (although the tiers perhaps get a little closer together). With a few notable exceptions (I'm looking at you, Barbarian/Totemists), it's a lot harder to multiclass into or out of Incarnum classes while still being effective.
Dip levels are much rarer and more difficult to make work. Also, their prestige classes are largely mediocre, so a straight-up Incarnate / Totemist / Soulborn 20 tends to be more effective than hobbling together a mishmash of classes like most people do in 3e. That said, the classes are fairly good at what they do. Totemists tend to fall into Tier 3, Incarnates into Tier 4 (although high Tier 4), and Soulborns into Tier 5. Keep in mind that with proper optimization it is possible to move up or down tiers, but I honestly don't see Soulborns rising above Tier 4 or anyone moving up to Tier 2. What can a Soulborn do that a Warrior NPC can't?A lot, actually. Kind of like Fighters, Soulborn are best when they devote themselves to a single trick (Smiting, Charging, Full Attack, what have you), then their have Chakra binds and bonus Incarnum feats to supplement said trick.
